Hills rolling again

Again, I am reminded of how much I enjoy meeting new people. Having new conversations. Discovering new faces. I feel refreshed to not only be at a place in my life where I enjoy encountering people I never have before, but also that those very same people enjoy encountering me.

The problem one faces is that to continually meet lovely people you have to search them out. You have to move, wander, and take steps in new cities. Also, you must leave, walk away from the familiar. To enjoy newness, you must journey from what you know. Sometimes what a person has come to know and be comfortable with can be just as fulfilling as the experience and refreshment of what is new and exciting.

The simple fact though is that we can return to what we know. The risk is that it may change while we're gone. But it may not.

For now I am in my motel room in Kamloops. The rolling hills here are familiar. The sun shines on them in a unique picturesque way, accentuating the beauty I've seen here before.

And this is what I'm listening to. To those who still read this, goodnight.

Well the coastal planting season has come to a close. Tomorrow I will be heading to Kamloops to plant some more trees before the long 100 Mile House interior season begins. I feel fully capable now, of planting. The land I was in on the coast was at times unreal - full of slash that kept you 10 feet off the ground. I'd find myself doing some kind of circus act balancing on one log to another then contorting my body to slip down to the ground and plant a few trees.

I was staying at an off season resort near Campbell River for a month, and for ten days did a helicopter stint near Port Hardy. Here, we lived on a boat and a barge. Not glorious or luxurious, but an adventure nonetheless. I've completed much writing, reading and knitting. I've been sunburnt too many times, already. And I've fallen through logs, down logs, on logs, and under logs. I've smacked my face with my shovel blade. I've sang Bob Dylan at the top of my lungs. And overall I'd say it's safe to say I have really enjoyed the past couple months. I look forward to planting more trees, and enjoying more of the beautiful sunshine.

Here are a few pictures:
